For years, Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff has been one of the most important characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From her introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron to the emotional highs of WandaVision and her darker turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda has gone through one of the MCU’s biggest character transformations.
Now, with VisionQuest arriving on Disney+, fans are wondering whether this is finally the end of the Scarlet Witch’s original MCU chapter.
The answer is a little more complicated.
VisionQuest Is Closing the WandaVision Trilogy
Marvel has officially positioned VisionQuest as the third and final installment of the story that began with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024.
The new series premieres on Disney+ on October 14, 2026, and brings Paul Bettany back as White Vision. The story follows Vision as he tries to understand his identity and recover a sense of purpose after the events of WandaVision.
But calling it the end of the trilogy doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the end of Wanda Maximoff.
In fact, the current story is much more focused on Vision, his memories, his identity and his connection to Tommy.
What Happens to White Vision and Tommy?
One of the biggest reasons Marvel fans are watching VisionQuest closely is its connection to the Maximoff family.
The series introduces Thomas Shepard, a mysterious teenager who may be connected to Vision’s son. Marvel’s official synopsis confirms that Vision goes on the run with the boy while trying to understand exactly who he is.
That connection is especially significant after Agatha All Along, which revealed that Billy Maximoff had survived in another form and introduced the idea that Tommy was still somewhere in the MCU.
This means the Maximoff family storyline is still very much relevant, even if Wanda herself isn’t at the center of VisionQuest.
Elizabeth Olsen Is Not Confirmed for VisionQuest
This is where some of the online excitement needs a reality check.
Despite fan theories about Wanda appearing in the series, current information does not confirm Elizabeth Olsen’s return as Scarlet Witch in VisionQuest.
Showrunner Terry Matalas has described the series as a story centered on Vision, while recent reports have emphasized that Olsen does not reprise her role in the show.
That doesn’t mean Marvel has permanently retired Wanda.
It simply means fans shouldn’t treat VisionQuest as a confirmed Scarlet Witch comeback.
Olsen Herself Says She Doesn’t Know What’s Next
Interestingly, even Elizabeth Olsen doesn’t appear to have the answers fans are looking for.
During a 2026 appearance, Olsen said she knows very little about the upcoming Avengers movies and specifically indicated that she doesn’t know what Marvel has planned for her character. She said she only knows about VisionQuest because she has remained in contact with Paul Bettany.
That makes theories about Wanda’s future even more difficult to separate from speculation.
For now, Marvel hasn’t officially announced an Elizabeth Olsen-led Scarlet Witch project following VisionQuest.
Could Secret Wars Change Everything?
This is where the conversation becomes much more interesting.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for December 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027. Those films are expected to have major consequences for the MCU’s multiverse storyline.
Because of that, fans have naturally started wondering whether characters such as Wanda could return in a different form after the Multiverse Saga.
A possible MCU reset, reboot or reimagining has become a popular fan theory, but there is currently no official confirmation that Secret Wars will introduce a new Scarlet Witch continuity or adapt House of M.
For now, those ideas belong firmly in the speculation category.
Wanda’s Story May Be Closing One Chapter, Not Ending
That’s perhaps the best way to look at the situation.
Wanda’s story began as part of the Avengers’ world, became deeply personal in WandaVision, and eventually turned tragic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
VisionQuest appears to be bringing the wider WandaVision family storyline toward another major conclusion.
But that doesn’t automatically close the door on Wanda forever.
Marvel has already demonstrated that apparent endings don’t always stay permanent, especially in a universe built around alternate realities, magic, artificial intelligence and the multiverse.
So while fans may be saying goodbye to one version of the Scarlet Witch era, there is currently no official evidence that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda has reached the absolute end of her MCU story.
And with Doomsday and Secret Wars still ahead, Marvel has plenty of opportunities to surprise everyone.
